10 days ago – Tue, Sep 24, 2024 at 09:11:33 PM

Hi everyone!

Good news - the BackerKit is now ready! We're sending the initial smoke screen surveys out now, so if you see something in your inbox, be sure to fill it out. If you don't see something in your email, check your junk folder. These surveys are for us to make sure we got everything right!

Once we have those smoke screen surveys in, we'll be sending out the remainder of the surveys.

Thanks again and very excited to get The Darkness at the Brink of Ohio out to you all!

Hi everyone!

Apologies for the delayed updates! We just recovered from PAX West and we're now getting back on track with our projects. But in the meantime...

PDFS ARE READY!

Great news! We have the digital PDF files ready to go! Huge thank you to Ruby Lavin for getting those files done so we can send it out to our backers.

The next steps for us are to get our BackerKit surveys ready to send to all of you, as well as getting those print files to the printer.

We're closing out the Kickstarter and moving onto BackerKit, so expect to see a link in your inbox soon.

I'm so excited for these to go into layout! Speaking of layout...

WE DID IT!!
4 months ago – Thu, Jun 06, 2024 at 07:43:07 AM

The campaign has ended and we've funded making 3 stretch goals! Thank you so so much for helping us get this thing made. It's been a delight working on this project with all of my friends and I can't wait for you to see it.

So what's next?

We have late backers set up! If you have any friends who missed out on backing, we'll be giving folks another 3 weeks to get their pledges in, before we move things onto the BackerKit, where we will be fulfilling the pledges.

In terms of production, our next steps are:

  • Handing the final_final_final manuscript to our editors
  • Handing that edited final_final_final manuscript to Ruby (our graphic designer) to create a PDF to send out to you and print-ready files
  • WAITING ON THE PRINTER - we'll be sharing with you all the proofs as we get them
  • Ordering/creating some of the add-ons, e.g. Flexi disc, T-shirts, etc.

Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly from here on out! But first...

Let's spotlight our editors!

Now that the manuscript is finished, we'll be passing it all on to our unsung heroes...the editors!

Karen Twelves(she/her) is an editor and linguist, and has worked on such projects as Candela Obscura, Monster of the Week: Codex of Worlds, Blades in the Dark, Fiasco, Dialect, and Thirsty Sword Lesbians. She is the author of Improv for Gamers, a collection of theater exercises to help strengthen skills for gaming, GMing, and larping. Learn more at karentwelves.com and improvforgamers.com.

Karen is editing the game manuscript!

Yeonsoo Julian Kim  is a writer and game designer based in Austin, Texas. They are the co-designer of games such as Women Are Werewolves, published by 9th Level Games, Home, published by Wet Ink Games, and the Chucky board game, published by Trick or Treat Studios. Their interactive horror novel, The Fog Knows Your Name, was published by Choice of Games in 2019.

Yeonsoo edited the script that you hear the actors acting from!

As for other projects...

It never ends! Wet Ink Games and Read/Write Memory is getting ready to launch the next crowdfunding campaign for our second printing of Jiangshi: Blood in the Banquet Hall with new scenarios. Be sure to follow along to keep updated when it launches!

And finally...we have another solo horror journaling game in the works, coming soon to crowdfunding. The sequel to Forgery is coming to BackerKit and it's called Knockoff.

We've hit our next stretch goal with less than 35 hours left!
4 months ago – Tue, Jun 04, 2024 at 08:10:29 PM

Only 35 hours left and we've hit our next stretch goal!

With only a little over a day left, if you can, please tell anyone who might be interested in this project so we can try to hit our next stretch goal!

Our next stretch goal is at $15,000 and that means more illustrations inside the book itself!

Speaking of art...Introducing our illustrators!

Seattle area based artist, Michael Croteau, creates work under the banner of croteaumacabre art + illustration: fusing the imagery & icons of horror, metaphysics & the macabre, w/ a dose of dark-humor & colorful, psychedelic abstraction. Follow him on social @croteaumacabre or via his website, https://www.croteaumacabre.com

Michael did an incredible job creating the spooky cover!

Robert Richburg is an artist and art handler living in New York City with roots in South Carolina. With a background in cartooning and illustration, he enjoys drawing creatures and beings both earthly and otherworldly. You can find his art at robertrichburg.com.

Robert is the genius behind all of the interior illustrations and if we manage to hit our $15,000 goal, we'll be able to pay him for more art!

Here's a sample of some of what he's already done for the interior.

If you haven't already checked out some of the actual plays, here are a few that you can watch to get a feel for what the game is like!

Huge thank you to DNDImposter, Apochromatic and DianaoftheRose!

Thank you so much for your support and appreciate everything you've done to get us to this point!
